Frequently asked questions about Itemsbase

Itemsbase is an offline home inventory app for remembering what you own and where you keep it. It is in development for iPhone and Android. The answers below describe the current app and distinguish features planned for later.

Is Itemsbase available on iPhone and Android?

Itemsbase is being developed for both platforms and is not yet generally available. The website currently accepts early-access registrations, rather than offering a public App Store or Google Play download. Join the early-access list for updates. No general-release date is announced here.

How much does Itemsbase cost?

The app is currently free and contains no advertising. There are no paid plans offered on this website.

What can I use a home inventory app for?

Use Itemsbase to check whether you already own something, find where it is stored, or see what is in a box before unpacking it. You record the belongings yourself; the app does not automatically discover things in your home.

For a practical starting point, see how to organize storage containers or how to keep an inventory across homes.

How are Locations, Rooms, and Containers different?

A Location is a home, office, or storage unit. Within it, you can create Rooms and Containers, such as a Kitchen and a Top cupboard. Each item belongs to one Location; choosing a Room or Container is optional. Tags label items across Locations, while Collections group items you want to recall together.

Does Itemsbase work without internet?

Once you have signed in and your inventory has synced to your phone, you can search and edit locally available inventory, add items and photos, and move items without a connection. Changes and photo uploads wait on your phone until you reconnect. Initial sign-in, receiving new changes from another device, uploading photos, and managing sharing need a connection.

A photo visible on another device is not a guarantee that its full image has already downloaded to this phone. Open the inventory and photos you need before going offline. See the offline home inventory guide.

What happens when I add a photo offline?

Itemsbase keeps a local copy and queues the upload. When connectivity returns, the app retries pending uploads. Keep the app installed and retain its local data while uploads are pending; uninstalling or clearing app data can remove unsynced work. A new photo cannot appear on another device until it has uploaded and synced.

Can I share my inventory with family or friends?

The current app supports view-only sharing with other app users. A viewing invitation does not give the recipient permission to edit. Separately, inviting someone to co-manage a Location gives that member editing access. Choose the access that matches what you intend to share.

No. Account-free public share links are planned for a later release.

Can I revoke someone's viewing access?

You can revoke an in-app viewing share. Revocation prevents further authorized access when devices reconnect; it cannot erase screenshots, exports, or other copies someone already saved. Offline copies may not reflect the change until the recipient reconnects.

Can I export my inventory?

The app supports exporting a Location's item list as a CSV file through your phone's sharing options. The file includes item details, tags, and photo counts. It does not contain the photo files and is not a complete backup of your account or all structured Room and Container information.

Who can see my inventory and photos?

Access depends on your account, Location memberships, and the shares you create. Itemsbase stores local copies for offline use and syncs inventory and selected photos with its servers. It does not claim end-to-end encryption. Selected photos can contain location metadata; see the Privacy Policy for the details before uploading sensitive images.

How do I delete my account and data?

Follow the account-deletion request instructions. Requests are handled manually and require identity verification. You can request deletion after uninstalling the app. Deleting an item in the app is different from erasing an account and every retained server or backup copy.
